Help with garden slabbing materials needed please
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
Hi, Could I please have some advice. I plan on on laying some natrual stone slabs in my garden. The area is 32 sqm I have been told the area area would need 150mm dug out. I am having difficulty working out how much sharp sand, cement and MOT type 1 I would need. I have rough ideas that I'll put below. Does this look right? Sharp sand - 2 tonnes MOT type 1 - 2 and 1/2 tonne Cement - 10 bags of 25kg bags

Your slabs want about 50mm solid cement and sand bed with anywhere from 50_100mm type 1 or any hard wackered bed as long as it's hard and doesn't sink and sufficient drainage it will be fine

Part of the answer I saw was right and I can't provide a better answer just a different one. The advice to you on depth of dig is spot on and standard on a level ish playing field at back or front of property. The best coursing for your depth also depends on thickness of slab. E.g 100mm HC 30 mm of full bed of cement mix, usually 6-1 for standard slabs (sandstone)with a thickness of 22mm with a tolerance of 5mm gives you your 150 depth. That of course all depends on fr ground condition and slabs. As for you amounts, there are a number of calculators online for your question. But for argument sake if your patio is 36m and you have a 80mm compacted type1 base, 6 tonne. 6-1 sharp sand bedding mix. 2.8 tonnes and 22 bags cement. With a 22mm slab.
Hope that helps!
