Rendering on top of pebbledash?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

We have a 1930s terrace with a pebbledashed front which has been painted cream at some point. I hate the pebbledash but I’ve heard that removing it isn’t advisable - is it possible to add a smooth render on top of existing pebbledash, and then paint that? Do we have any other options?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No, you cannot render over the pebble dash, it needs to be chipped off back to the bare brickwork, so that the render can be applied correctly.

The dash needs to be removed before rendering

your real answer lies with a builder/plasterer, and depends how tight the render is will tell if you can then bond and re render,it is possible to render to smooth finish though.

You can re-render with out hacking it off. The best ways of re-rendering pebble-dash without removing pebble-dash render is by smoothing over it with our One Coat Dash Cover (OCDC). This is the ideal material to use, because it can be applied at a thickness of 20mm thick without compromising structural integrity. You wouldn’t want to put a non-breathable material on top of the pebble-dash because water needs to be able to escape from the walls, otherwise you may find yourself in an unpleasant, waterlogged situation.
