Bricklaying & Repointing

Extending height of the existing garden wall

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi, Firstly I've emailed the council for done guidance and am awaiting a reply to their original response as it didn't answer my question. In short, I want to understand if the 2m height restriction for the wall in my back garden applies from my side of the garden or the road side. At present it slopes with the road, but as there is about 2ft difference between my garden and the road (road is lower, its not very private. Our plan is to build up the pillars and replace the inbuilt fence panels with 5 or 6ft ones. There are a number of other houses on the estate that have done a similar thing (but taller than we looking to do, but would like to understand if planning permission is required or not. Thanks in advance

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi would of thought it applies from the road, not your garden. So planning would not be required.

In my opinion if there are walls in the neighbouring area that are taller there has been a president set I thought that a wall could only be a meter high at the front of a house but given your overlooked best thing to do would be to call the council dont think planning need be called
