Why are their cracks in my walls
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.11 PM
Had some work done in my flat last year. Its a new flat (4 years) We had a leak and the builders ended up cutting out up to 50cm of plasterboard and replacing. They put in new plasterboard and painted and it all looked ok. Its now been 1 year and i am seeing hairline cracks and it appears that the new plasterboard has sunk; you can clearly follow it around and see where the new plasterboard meets the old. Is this due to bad work by the builders or is this sort of thing common?

Hi, sounds like the studwork has dried out and shrunk, pulling the plasterboard in slightly, rake out the cracks and use some filler

Perfectly normal for this to happen... sometimes it can take a couple of years for timber studding to find its natural moisture content.... just use acrylic filler.. or if you can leave it another year to guarantee no more movement then fill and paint

It’s a common, after certain time previous repairs, i think is normal, my opinion is to rack out and follow the crack line, and fill with easy fill, and sand down after good 2-3days

not a common fault if the wall was repaired properly fully nogged around cut out section and replaced filled taped and coated at least 2 times although I always 3 coat properly sanded down you would get no problem.
I suggest you tape over and re coat
