Building a border for my garden along a river

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

Hi A part of my backyard is bordering a river and at the moment this small seating area has concrete flooring which has broken up due to subsidence/tree root (not sure). I wish to shore up the soil, have some sort of a fence/barrier to stop this subsidence from recurring, and pretty much, create a seating area overlooking the stream. Now , what sort of fence/wall would I need to create ? This is a shallow river and we do not have any history of flooding around here. Who, would be best suited to do the job - landscape specialists or builders ? Any advice, would be much appreciated. Thanks APA

I would find the level of the water then I would look at that level and build a stone wall to the induction of the level of the wall to stop the risk of flooding and have the wall at 3-5 ft in height and 8-10 ft in length to have these cemented in you could have a straight line half moon shape and have sleepers put in place at the back of the wall to the induction of the wall Kind regards Anthony (ANTHONY’S GARDENING SERVICES

Depends on the bank to the river, but I would probably put a timber edged border and build up the ground around the tree roots to make a terraced border

Unfortunately its not my specialty however a good landscaping company would have far more knowledge in this area than a general builder.
