18mm osb for fibre glass roof
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.11 PM
A new fibreglass roof is to be constructed from 18mm osb boards. The boards have been weathering for 9 months now and have swolen. The fitting seems to be sloppy in that in places the gaps between the boards is 1cm or more. I can fit my fingers through in some places and some boards have 4 -5cm holes in them. But my builder says that this is all OK and nothing to worry about. Is he right should I Allow him to proceed?

Ask him if he would accept a roof like that. Any sense, he would say no way.
Needs stripped off and tongue and grooved flooring ply used. Has to be screwed down NO NAILS AT ALL.
Limit amount of movement.

Not at all, when I do a roof, I do leave a tiny gap on each joint! Once its finished its covered ASAP with a tarpaulin ready for the roofer. I wouldn't let him touch your roof until he's replaced the boards

If they have swollen there will be excess moisture in them, this will cause them to shrink over time, get the boards changed to dry boards straight away otherwise you will have no end of trouble with a cracking. With grp tongue and groove board screwed and glued is best.

Absolutely no!!
Need to be Re done with tongue and grove osb boards and the resin should be done ASAP to avoid the moisture going into the osb boards.
