I am looking in to installing a gas boiler in my flat. This would require siting of a flue. I'm concerned about the extent of the plume causing a nuisance.
I would like to know is the size/extent of plume related to the power of the boiler? For example if i were to buy a 9kW Greenstar i (minimum output 3.1kW) would this produce minimal plume compared to a 15kW system with minimum output 4.6kw?
If I were to use a boiler for heat only, would this make for a smaller plume?
What would be the extent of a plume for a 2 bed, well insulated flat for heating only (6 radiators)?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi There
I am a qualified gas engineer
I would be happy to help with your concern.
With regards to the plume, no matter what boiler you install you will still have an output of flue gases which in effect would generally look the same. there may be a slight difference between say 9kw boiler to a 35kw.
the more plume generated is due to how hard the boiler has to run to heat up.
if the plume is interfering in an area, you can install plume extension kits to deflect the plume away from areas of concern.
I hope this answers your question.
Thanks
Rob
The difference in plume between boilers would be minimal and this shouldn't be your first concern when newly installing a boiler.
Your best option in to get a plume extension kit to expel gases away from the area of concern. Speak to a gas safe engineer about this. Another option would be to move the boiler to a more suitable location.
Note: Gas engineers won't be able to tell you much details about the difference in plume between boilers but boiler manufacturers could give you more details if you give them a call.
The plume is roughly the same whatever size boiler you install.
By having a plume kit installed it would help deflect it away from your neighbour.
If the plume is a big problem you may want to look into an electric boiler.
Hope this of help.
