Can you use 1 existing boundary brick wall, and 2 existing brick walls for extending?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.11 PM
Can you use 1 existing boundary brick wall, and 2 existing brick walls of the current house when extending? Can I just add 1 more wall, heighten the brick boundary wall, put flooring and roof it. This is a front extension where there is an empty space where a garage would normally be, would I need planning permission for this

Unless you can prove the walls in question can take the load which would require proving so by a structural engineer then the answers no unfortunately

I'm afraid that the boundary brick wall can't be used as I would say this would not be a load bearing wall. This would need to be taken down and replace with proper foundations and re-built the other two wall would need inspecting to see if they also can withstand load, any structural work and re-builds that extends the existing property footprint would need to get planning permission

Highly unlikely that you can use a garden wall as part of your extension

You will have to satisfy the local authority building inspector it is structurally Sound which I would very much doubt. Unfortunately it is a new wall with inspected foundations signed off

Unless a structural engineer deemed the wall safe enough to do so and will be able to hold the weight I would say unfortunately not.
