Change mdf stud wall for plastered is it possible?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

Hi! I have an wood wool stud wall in my downstairs toilet and I think it's been built to box in and help conceal pipes. I was wondering, what's the best solution when it comes to renovating is it worth changing this for plasterboard instead and applying a skim to it? Asking as I'm planning on doing up the room. Thanks

You called take down the MDF and replace with timber stored and plus the board or you could just overboard and skim it

If it's an MDF sheet on a stud wall. I would need to know if there is a toilet or sink on the wall. Is there any play for allowing a plasterboard behind the toilet or sink etc. If not then I would remove the the MDF sheet and apply moisture board to the stud work due to toilets condensation in cold weather. If there is no damage to the MDF sheeting or no fixture to the wall then I would plasterboard over the top of the mdf. You can not plaster on top of mdf board. So would recommend plasterboarding and plastering over the top.

You can remove the mdf and replace it with plasterboard and then skim or plasterboard over the mdf but removing it would be better. You can’t plaster over the mdf though it has to be boarded.
