Fit electrics before plaster

Hi can I get all the electrics done before I get plastered, spot lights ..switches..plug sockets etc

If it’s a new build extension loft conversion get it plastered before you fix any electrical points If it’s a re-skim the sockets and light switches are on the wall so we have a workaround on spotlights in the ceiling we drop down skim the ceiling and push them back up

No you should get the plastering done before the electrics just in case the electrition damages any walls etc so they can be put right once they have finished and also this will help to keep your new fittings clean and tidy

First fix electrics are those which are fitted before plastering. This includes wiring, socket back boxes, consumer units etc. Second fix electrics such as socket faces, lights, spotlights, switches etc. are done after plastering. Trying to undertake second fix work before plastering will make plastering much more difficult and damage all your electrical fittings.
