New lock cylinder fitted locks but will not unlock door

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

I fitted a replacement barrel cylinder (6 pin) to my door due to lost keys. The old cylinder locked and unlocked the door no problem, but the new cylinder locked the door but would not unlock it so I had to remove and re-fit the old cylinder to unlock it. On checking the 2 cylinders the locking section on the new one always finishes in the same position when rotated and the key is removed but the old one seems to allow the locking section to spin freely to any position yet this one works and the new one does not - please help with any answers??

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sounds like a faulty cam on new lock.

Your new cylinder is working correctly from what you describe, the cam should always be in the same position at rest. Your old cylinder should also do the same.,its cam has slipped out of position it will work, but normally you cannot remove the key after locking. If this is not the case then the gearbox .may be faulty. Of course if you have a keywind version of your old cylinder, this could also explain it.

It sounds like you have a faulty barrel, the cam shouldn’t be able to move with the key removed. Get a replacement from whoever supplied it.

The new cylinder appears to be faulty, exchange it with the supplier or get whoever fitted it to come back and exchange. We fully guarantee and parts we install.
