Lumps of Frost Forming on Both Sides of Fan in Hotpoint Auto-Defrost Fridge Freezer

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

Lumps of Frost Forming on Both Sides of Pure Wind Fan in Hotpoint Auto-Defrost Fridge Freezer. Any Ideas? Model number: FFRM1812PAI There are no gaps or leaks along the door. Ice is forming and expanding in size to the bottom left and bottom right of the fan (which is towards the top of the fridge compartment). It seems the fridge freezer is cooling all the time as we can hear the compressor and fan running continuously. We've not noticed it defrosting recently, as it usually goes quite during that time. Even when we've not open the fridge for several hours, e.g. in the morning you can still hear it running. We have switched off and defrosted the entire unit, but ice has already started building up in the same area again within a day.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Check thermostat on freezer ..shouldn’t be permantly on ,cut out for temp control probably controlled by thermostat

It could be a Block defrost drain, Door seals damaged, Vent clogged or the Defrost thermostat faulty

It sounds like the thermostat, I did have one replaced once and it wasn't that expensive, you can buy an insurance policy from Hotpoint, it costs about£120 and your appliance is covered for the year, that will cover the cost of replacing the thermocoupling, it also gives you peace of mind for a year.

Could be thermostat reading wrong temperature and therefore continually running and causing ice. Check thermostat unit as first port of call. If there is a variable temperature turn that up so there is definitely no need for the fan to run continually. If it still does thats indicative of thermostat issues.
