Fencing

neighbour (council tenant) parked his car very close to works to oppose it being build

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

Hi, we are erecting a fence between our private property and council house. The council tenants opposing it and parked their car very very close to the recently confirmed line. We got all permission to erect the fence. My concern is that when we start works their car may get scratched etc as my workers have to put concrete posts etc. We informed them we going to carry the job and asked to move the car from the closeness of the works but they refused. We erecting this fence as we had problems with them before, they kicked old fence down (what was reported to police and police told them off and recorded criminal damage what rather not made them like us). The question: what can I do to make them to move their car for the works to be carried? If I cant than what if their car will unwittingly get scratched during works? I did wrote to council to ask them to move a car but have no reply at all for a week. I will send the recorded letter next, thank you very much! Wonder what will happen if my workers do scratch their car, can we not be than hold to responsibility as we did all we could to prevent it happen?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If your neighbours are council tenets aswell i would contact your local council housing representatives and inform them of your issue and they should be able to speak with the tenents and come to some sort of arrangement. If there is already tension between yourselves it would be a good idea to go through the council.

As you already had the police involved, it might be wise to ask then to intervene and tell the tennants to move their car for a day so Building work can be completed. Sound like you have an unreasonable nightmare neighbour and they are deliberately asking for trouble to get back at you. My best suggestion would be police or council involvement, they might also be able to help put an end to this. If not channel 5, I am sure they can do a socially distanced show.

your first port of call is a recorded letter to them asking them to remove their car before works commence,if they will not your next recorded letter is to the council asking for their assistance with the matter.

If they want to be awkward then there is nothing you can do about it unfortunately... you can report them to police or the council and they won’t do anything, just the way of the world unfortunately
