Loud noise in the house

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

Hi, The pipes in my house make a very loud noise that can be heard throughout the house. The noise consists of a vibration and at times a screeching sound. Although, tap handles on my kitched sink seem to be a bit loose and when moving it slightly the noise stops. What is the issue?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The screeching sound is likely to be from a tap washer or a ball valve washer (in your WC) moving from side to side very fast as water flow flows past it. If you say the the noise stops when you move your tap, this can identify a water backflow problem with that tap (if its a mixer tap). The solution? a new washer or potentially a tap.

Start with the tap cartridges. They sound like they need replacing anyway. It’s the cheapest option. Then work on from there.
