Shower runs out of hot water (but sink still has hot water)
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM
Good morning, I have a mixer shower. When the shower starts the water is very hot but within 8 minutes or so gets completely cold. However, if I open the hot water tap in the sink (just next to the shower) it is still incredibly hot. But if I turn the mixer shower back on there is no hot water. Any suggestions as to the cause of the fault would be truly appreciated. Many thanks. -Alex Thank you ...this has now been answered!

Hi Alex, did you try to open the tap in the same time with your shower mixer? And also what tipe of mixer you have? It could be the thermostat from the mixer.

Hi,
Sounds like you need to replace the thermostatic cartridge inside the mixer shower. It could just need to be adjusted again or changed altogether.

1st port of call is you hot water...is this stored in a cylinder or is it from a combination boiler instantaneous...when you say runs out but still in the sink it’s hot..that means it’s not run out...can only mean there’s a blockage in the mixer shower filters or the valve cartridge is goosed...a new valve would be more cost effective than to replace the cartridge( if at all it’s possible)👍
