How can I reopen the chimney breast?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

Hi there, we have a chimney breast in our bedroom and I would really like to reopen it so I can put a fireplace in. I don't want to have a working fire, but rather a nice focal point. Is this an option? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it is, smash a hole about 10”-15” high dead Center of the chimney breast so you can get a torch in and have a look. Depending on the age of the property you should be able to open up roughly 24”-36” wide and the same height without re linteling as there should already be one in if it’s only been blocked up

Totally agree with what’s been said but as soon as it’s opened up you must have it swept and I would put on a chimney cowl which is something we can help you with here at Cardiff chimney sweeps
