Gravity fed shower runs out of water

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

I have a Worcester Bosch Solar Thermal system with the usual large hot water tank, I also have a Worcester Bosch condensing boiler. I have two gravity fed showers. The Solar Thermal system has worked very well for over 10 years and showers never seemed to be problem. Over the last year or so, possibly coinciding with the new boiler installation, if anyone in the house has one long shower, the water runs out I.e. not just gets cold, literally stops flowing. No other tap can get hot water either, although cold is fine on other taps. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hi there what could be the cause of this is your ball valve on the cold water storage tank could be blocked with limescale or seized up, reducing the flo-rate to fill your tank fully and at a steady pace. so you're using all the water in your storage tank before it can be filled fully. I may be wrong but it's just an idear to check the ball valve.

The cold water storage tank needs to be raised if possible and the pipework between the cylinder and shower needs to be bigger. For example, if the pipes are 15mm you could upgrade them to 22mm. This would increase the pressure that you would normally get from a 15mm pipe.

check ball valve on your storage cistern is working, check pipework to cylinder is not blocked,it may be partial air lock in cold feed pipework, get a qualified plumber to sort it for you.

Because u have had a new system fitted and drained the cylinder u have dragged all the sediment out the tank and partially blocked the hot feed pipe what u should of done is when u had a boiler fitted you should of gone on a pressurized cylinder were u can balance the shower and other appliances
