Terraced House Kitchen Return Extension and Roof
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM
I am looking to extend my kitchen into the side return of my terraced house. And open up the kitchen into this extra space of 1.5 meters x 4 meters. This would be single storey as the rest of the space is a double extension. I am presented with a problem where our neighbours extension has an Apex roof. The guttering also drains away onto my side of the property. The extension i want to build will be slightly higher than where the neighbours apex finished. I am curious what the best way is to finish into this?

The written description that you provide here does not adequately describe the scenario. I would recommend that you invite an architectural designer, surveyor or other person with experience of designing in these sort of situations and pay him or her to come and look at it.

It's difficult to imagine the description given and provide you with a simple answer. Depending on the final design, you will need to submit a planning application or apply for a certificate of lawfulness. Then you will be required to submit building regulations drawings. Therefore, the neighbour's drainage, which seems to be in your property, will get sorted and neatly illustrated in the drainage design of the building regulations drawings.
