Cracks appearing where outside wall meets concrete floor

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

Hi guys I have cracks appearing in the corners of my house on the outside where the brick walls meet the concrete floor. Please can you tell me what I can fill these with? They are only small cracks, 2-4inches but there are weeds appearing in there I can see ants going in and out. Would sand and cement do the job? Many thanks for your help, Dave

Hi Dave, You will need to clean out any growing vegetation and treat with a strong weed killer. Likewise the ants will need to be killed (ant poison is readily available) as both ants and weeds will open up hairline cracks. Having a crack between the brick and the cement floor should not be a problem as any external floor level should be below the damp proof course in the brick wall, however both ants and weeds are invasive, so you do need to treat them. Then, yes, sand and cement will be fine.
