Bathroom Fitting

tile hollow behinde drill hole for accessories so accessories wont fix properly..what to do?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

I have just moved into house with a pretty fairly new bathroom fully tiles from floor to ceiling there is a towel rail ontop on the radiator which I'd very rickety loose. on inspection we took the towel rail down and found the drill hole had been made between grout lines...not only that the wall is a stud wall and the area drilled looks hollow behinde the tile...hence why the plug is not secured on nothing so the towel rail I'd rickty wobbling. how can i fix this?? without taking tiles off as it's a new bathroom...I need to fix the towel rail back onto the same spot because of the drill holes existing kind regards

Use a fixing/ plug which will expand and open up behind the tile and board. There are many types available.

Drill a 5mm hole in the tile with tile cutting drill bit. Put a standard 7mm masonary raw plugin the hole. Knock in with a hammer. It won’t go all the way in because it’s a larger plug. Cut the excess sticking out the hole off with a Stanley knife or chisel. Your screw will now bit on the plug that is in the tile. Don’t over tighten. Or alternatively do what previous comment said if plasterboard anchor is small enough
