What damages should a reputable windows company be expected to address after installation

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hello all, I recently had all of the windows replaced in my 1930s semi-detached. Of the 21 windows replaced, 14 of them made up the upstairs and downstairs rounded bay window. After the bay windows had been replaced, I noticed that there was a significant vertical crack in the mortar on one side of the bay (between the upstairs and downstairs windows). The brickwork is out of line as part of the bay appears to have dropped. I informed the window company immediately. I have consulted my photos of the property prior to the installation and there is no cracking in place. Should I expect a reputable windows company to address the issue given that it was caused during installation, if so what should be the expected outcome? Or is the problem solely on me to resolve? The windows surveyor raised no issues with the property before the windows went into production. As far as I am concerned I paid a significant sum to have my windows replaced, there were no issues raised beforehand, and now I have damage to my bay which brings a host of problems with it. Many thanks in advance.

They should attend a meeting at your property quickly and resolve the issue as you have evidence that suggests that they are responsible The bay barrel has moved possibly due to lack of sufficient support when taking out the lower bay window There was no movement beforehand

100% the window company’s fault if there were no cracks or damage before the installation but there is now, the work was done without any care or proper props in place, this things do happen on older buildings but it’s up to the company to put good any damaged caused, as sound like the bay has moved whilst removing the old windows.

Just ask the company to prove that they have put in bay Jack's to the bottom bay ( bay jacks are structural supports),it sound like it hasn't been supported properly and you might get further issues down the line...and if they can't prove this then get in touch with FENSA.
