Lintel for cavity wall

Hi, The best lintel for the job, is a catnic. You will need to make sure you have a minimum bearing of 150mm either side. They do lengths in 2400mm ( but i am afraid this is just a little to short to conform to regulations) So the short answer is the lintel you will need is the next size up, this is the 2700mm one. If you want a standard width size (which will cost you a lot less, and save you having to have one especially fabricated ) Go for the 2700mm x 250mm You can always hide the extra 25mm Inside with the plaster. I hope this helps. ( to respond to your edited bit about the standard, heavy duty or extra heavy duty.) I am assuming that being a garage (roller garage doors fitted) that there is not a lot of masonry or weight needing support above the new doors? There is circumstances where this is not always true. If there is not a lot to be supported above the lintel a standard one will suffice. If slightly more ie gable end, heavy duty may be needed, if you had a thick concrete based flat roof let’s say, then maybe the extra heavy duty could be required. Short answer is, it all depends how much weight/pressure is going to be resting on it from above. That will determine lintel type. I hope this helps.

You have a few options here as it's a non-domestic dwelling. I'd use a 250mm wide lintel, depending on load over door. I assume non of the fixings for the roller door are positioned for fixing over the opening. Cost a 250mmx2.4m lintel against a couple of concrete lintels, that's if aesthetics isn't an issue. Steve
