Cracking and popping on tiles, even when noone is standing on them.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM
About a month ago we had a raised patio laid in our garden- it attaches to the dining area of our kitchen/diner. Over the last week we have heard cracking and popping under the kitchen tiles, even when noone is standing on them. Could this have anything to do with the work that went on in the garden?

It all depends if your subfloor is wooden floorboards then this may have an effect on it if there was no preparation

Assuming no tiles were fitted or removed indoors this seems strange. But could water be getting in? Presumably some sort of barrier was in place and it doesnt just run from inside to outside?

If its a wooden floor has to be screwed every 8 inches bonded and flexible adhesives and grout if its concrete floor has to be fully dried and when fixing aloud to dry before grouting

Going on the theme of wooden floorboards in the diner, could it be an air break on the outside in under floor level has been blocked when new concrete patio was laid, this could cause air pressure in side. Or the new patio has moved/settled since all that heavy rain weve had then sunny warm days and the ground around the patio has made it move towards the main building causing the existing tiled floor to raise and pop tiles......it all sounds strange and there could be loads of reasons

Hi it sounds like the kitchen area is debonding which can be due to the tiles if not backed before fixing with adehesive will delaminate.also was the outside area sealed off under the floor before tiling, water can come through from the garden.
