Ask a questionBathroom Fitting
Tile or LVT upstairs bathroom with wet room
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM
Planning on a upstairs bathroom with wet room (shower tray) fit in, can’t decide which is better for rest of the room flooring. Floor to ceiling tiles, worried if tile floors going to be too heavy on floorboards (old house), LVT will have leak in long run as this room is directly on top of kitchen which only have a plaster board for ceiling? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

With the disruption you Have given i think you would be better with a large shower tray and not a wet room if you use tiles there have a good chance of cracking on the joints!
Lvt floor would be better as the tile will crack on the joints!

The floor should be either ply lined screeded and tanked /waterproof system applied before tiling this way the tiles should not crack and with the tanking system installed you should get no leaks to the ceiling below
Lvt flooring will not provide enough waterproofing to prevent this so my opinion is to tile and tank the floors and shower walls giving you peace of mind

If the existing floorboards are old and you would prefer floor tiles, replace with 18mm plyboard well screwed down. Use good quality adhesive and grout (not tile shop own brands) the joints won't crack.
