Electric at the top of the garden where there’s no wall?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hi, Thanks in advance for any help. I am installing a patio at the top of my garden and while the garden is all dug out I’ll have an SWA cable buried. I want power at the top of the patio which will be about 8m from the house. The only issue is that there is no wall to attach the sockets to, what is normally used in situations like this? Many thanks

Hi, I would suggest installing a wooden post and secure some board to the back top allow a weatherproof socket to be installed.

Hi. My advice would be to postcrete in an alluminium or composite post, fit an outdoor adaptable waterproof box and terminate swa with glands and earth tags both ends. Its gotta be rcd pritected. You can then fit an outdoor socket supplied off that box with swa. All glands to be earth tagged. Its a notifiable job, so you will need a competant person, and building control, or a registered electrician to do the wirk

Also i would ask what the power supply is for? if its for a hot tub it may require an earth rod/plate and additional protection.

That is the way to do it although a metal post protected with rust proofing paint would be better. Wood tends to rot
