Unusual toilet seat fitting

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hi, I moved into a new house a few months back. The original toilet seat must have been broken because now there is just a loose seat placed on top. I would like to fix it in place (or another one if this can't be made to fit). However he holes on the toilet basin are in an unusual place - they're at the back, so any screws would fit horizontally, not vertically. I can't seem to find any kit to use to fit a seat in place. Top/bottom fixings assume holes from the top of the seat. The toilet manufacturer, Selles, seems to no longer be in business and orginal seats are going for £200-300, in which case I might as well get a new toilet. Any advice on whether / how I can fix a regular cheap seat would be appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I personally wouldn't like to adapt a seat to fit something it wasn't designed for as if this then came loose and some fell of while seated could cause injury then be my fault

If you take the toilet seat off, then take a picture of the fixings - you should be able to show staff in B&Q or screwfix and get a similar part. If this part is unavailable, I would suggest using a larger washer on the other end of the bolt and try to tighten it as much as possible from the back of the toilet.

If the seat was specifically designed for the pan it’s highly unlikely that a universal one will fit, I can only suggest you try ebay/gumtree etc.
