Lights not the full circuit off, no switch tripped

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hi, I have two hall lights quite some distance from each other. One went off and when I replaced the bulb, it didn't work. Tried another new bulb - also didn't work. All bulbs were eco bayonet bulbs. Checked fuse board, no trip. Then about 2 hours later the other hall light did same thing, still not tripped on board. They are operated by the same wall switch placed mid-distance between. As far as I know, other lights are in the same circuit, but they are the only two not working.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Probably a loose/broken connection at the switch, no other reason for this fault. Presuming no changes have been made and they worked fine, before this fault.

There’s a loose connection somewhere on either the live or neutral. The break in circuit is effecting these lights by the sound of it.

It is possible that there might be a loose connection, also check the lamp holder, Light fittings have a max wattage to be used and this should never be exceeded, lamps can create a lot of heat, this heat will diminish the lamp holder causing a bad connection.

Hello. The most likely cause of the lights not working is because there is a break in one or more of the conductors feeding the light fittings. Sometimes wires become loose in a terminal and over time can part disconnecting the circuit. The information you have provided that no other lights are affected suggests it could be a switched live connection in the second light fitting that went off probably connected to the first. This is only a possibility, there could be other reasons. I hope this helps.
