Damp Proofing

Cupboard smells musty, but no signs of damp/mold

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

I have flagstone tiles in the kitchen, and next to the oven is a cupboard at ground level (8" or so above the flagstone), with a work top on top of it. Then above that there is another cupboard at head level, this cupboard (and all others in the kitchen) are fine. But the one at ground level has a horrible musty smell, and some dark discolouring in the wood. There is no black mold or visible damp. I have emptied the cupboard, taken the doors off and bleached it to the hilt, and left it for a day or two. When putting the doors back on, eventually the smell has returned. What could be happening? EDIT: I'm purchasing some vent grids, and going to install these on the side of the cupboard. After keeping the cupboard doors open all night, the smell has dissipated, and only resides in the draw. Will update after vents installed and a week or so...

I would agree with the above answer, sounds like a ventilation problem, best to get someone to check it out though 😀

Always request a full survey, as this will eliminate what it could be and give correct long term solutions.
