Aerial cables from loft down to living room

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

Already have a loft aerial feeding rooms but want to extend down to living room as I have got rid of sky tv. What would be the best way to do this? On the outside of the building or through cavity wall

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

To keep the damage and cost to a minimal run it down the outside. Trying to run down the cavity would mean cutting a box in the wall right the way through into the cavity, messy and then you have to fill it back in.

Well depending on the fabric of the property an inspection would be required to source the best cable run. Would be neat hidden internally rather than on show externally. Once the client has been informed of various routes then it would be up to them as time and labour costs to be dicided

coaxial cable can be run externally it is safe to run it outside the building. It is entirely up to you. I would expect there will be more remedial works if you were running it through the cavity wall so it might be an easier option to go with running the cable outdoors.

I’d buy a set of cable rods and see if you can get them down through the cavity all the way without obstruction as my preferred option to running cables externally which is unsightly.

Outside is always easiest for aerial cables down the cavity is ok for aerial cables But not power cables but a pain to do

Hi, Some cavity insulation can degrade cables over time, so that is definitely something to consider. If you do pass the cable through the building you must try to be aware of other services hidden, especially electrical, gas and plumbing. If you clip the cable to a wall I would use metal cable clips called Pclips with wall dog screws, this is an all metal installation method which is not liable to collapse in the even of fire.
