Plume from external combi boilder very unpleasant and entering house

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

The plume from my new(ish) external combi boiler is very smelly, and enters the house. My plumber says the smell is completely normal - but surely not? Can it be checked out by an independent body? Is a flue extension kit the answer? And what would these cost, approx? I'm really bothered by this now, and don't feel able to talk to the original engineer about it without knowing more. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

Every boiler manufacturers instruction have a flue termination page which is relatively the same for combis. Here is link Worcester 30CDI for example, look at page 16 referring to flue. Certain situations call for flue management kit but end result is the same. https://www.freeboilermanuals.com/assets/pdf/worcester_bosh/wg-30CDi-system.pdf

Hi. There is an "odour" when a gas fired boiler is working, but shouldn't be that bad, the flue integrity can be visually checked together with a flue analyser to make sure it is all fit correct, a plume kit then if needed to comply with the regulations can be fit to take the plumeing away from any doors or windows...the cost depends on the boiler make and whats required.

Yes the fumes coming into the property can be classed as neuisance so when this happens it always best practice to fit a plume kit

Regardless of what’s in the Boilers instructions you should not be getting fumes in from a window. Please go to ( GAS SAFE) for more information
