Removal of soil pipe air inlet valve

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

I have a small en-suite that has a column running vertically on the inside of the external wall that houses the soil pipe inlet valve. I’m removing this to create more space and wanted to know my options for where to fit new vent. I understand from talking to an architect that the air inlet line can be as small as 50mm. My question is, can I use a 50 strap boss into the top of a horizontal section of soil pipe (between the toilet and vertical stack) to a hive this? The soil currently runs into a T in the vertical stack the top part of which is the vent/air inlet - I’m planning on replacing this with an elbow. Many thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

U are talking about an durgo vent or an aav vent anti air vacum valve the best of my nowleg it can go any way as long as its 500mm above the out let waste pipe in case of blocking and it has to be the sufficient size for the pipe ur supplier should be able to advise u on the correct size.

You can buy a dergo valve to replace most of stack to outside but an access panel would be benifical as they do stick from time time and it just needs a poke with a screw driver then works fine I’ve done it loads of times and ran a work top across boxed it in

i wouldnt be putting a 50mm strap on boss to use as an air vent. not unless no other choice. but hypothetically you could use one and put a piece of waste pipe up to vent it away from windows. but this is rarely done. i havent heard of anyone doing it.

no what you propose is a system of poor plumbing, and will lead to problems in the future,do not ask an architect ask a plumber who knows about soil stacks and drains and the regulations .
