Water softening with mains supply under floorboards

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

I had Harvey’s come in for a check and we found the water mains under the floorboards in the living room... Apparently needed a builder to move the mains but it didn’t seem a small job. I am not too keen to spend a fortune remodelling this. I am wondering what options are there for those with water mains not being accessible... I read about electronic descaled but it seems dodgy with results. Any easy options here or do I have to get water mains relocated?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

98% of mains supplies are under floorboards in the UK. Do you mean the mains stop cock is under the floorboard. If so, just add another one above the floorboards.

You could get an electric solenoid valve fitted with an emergency button. So it’s isolatable when required. Ideally it would be accessible though

Without knowing the exact layout of your house it is difficult to comment. In general your mains water should run into your kitchen cupboard where you will have an isolation valve. If not then there will be a point of entry under the stairs. In both situations it would be a straight forward installation. If there are no valves on the pipe you can shut the water at your meter which will be located on the boundary of your property.
