New Resitrix Rubber roof has significant pooling and dripping through trims - how to fix it?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

Hello, I have recently had my flat roofs redone in resitrix rubber (I asked for GRP and he put on rubber, but that's another story!). These roofs replaced a ordinary flat felt roof with a warm roof, so surely they should have angled the new roof to drain water? But no, they have put trims around it, and essentially created a pond. I have a video of both here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYT9dx4oa0I and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqsi5nAIu3c The water drips through the trims, which I would assume isn't how the trims are meant to operate? I don't want to go and ask the roofer back blind, so I was hoping for advice as to what will need to be done to fix this? Do I need to ask him to redo both roofs, possibly with firrings? Also is the bubbling that can be seen normal? Thanks! Andrew

Any flat roof should have a fall to allow the rainwater to make it’s way to the guttering or drainage point. There should not be edge trims on all sides unless the fall is a reverse fall and drains back to an integral drainage gully. The trims should be depressed on the foam to allow water to track along with the direction of fall. The bubble areas are where the rubber has not adhered to the decking properly.

Rubber roofing and fibreglass wouldn’t touch it. Waste of time and money. 3 layer torch on or GRP is the best you can get. The old way torch on. Strip flat roof completely, stat from the beginning. Rubber and fibreglass doesn’t last. I’ve done about 12 porches and a massive extension. Replaced it with torch on and GRP. It’s a lot more expensive. But you get what payed for. I wouldn’t recommend rubber or fibreglass to anyone. But that’s my point of view. I’ve been roofing for 30 years . I always use the best materials for the best results. Happy customer happy tradesmen. Thank Kevin

hi looking at the video its a dormer roof the fall is to the back roof edge and runs of gradually theres nothing to worry about it will only hold so much water for a short time then drain the trims look ok as for the bubbles the glue has not taken in small parts but it will cause no real damage.

I share the same opinion as Kevin you can’t beet felt I use three layers torch on felt. Green cap sheet can’t beet it fibreglass and rubber I don’t advise anyone to have them especially fibreglass but that’s just my opinion. Nigel.
