Megaflow cylinder immersion heater stat setting

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

Hi Folks We have a Megaflow 280l h/w cylinder heated by off peak electricity. Our bills seem way too high so have been logging o/p energy usage over night. It looks as if for normal nightly usage without storage heaters on will be around 5kWh going up to 7kWh or even 9kWh if somebody has a bath. The Megaflow is very well insulated so not much heat is being lost there. The water temperature, however, does seem to be very hot. I have looked at the immersion heater and see that it has an adjustable stat with five positions but no labelling. It was set in the leftmost position so I have moved it back one slot. So far that seems to have made zero difference. My guess is that the slots could be 80 degrees, 70 degrees, 60 degrees, 50 degrees and 40 degrees. Does anybody know if that is right or know a better answer? Thanks Pete Postscript 1/7/20 We have finally received a reply from Baxi with the details: "The thermostat range is 10-70 degrees C. and each setting rises by 15 degrees C. 1 – 10, 2 – 25, 3 – 40, 4 – 55 and 5 – 70" Hope that is useful for other folk. P.

Hi Pete, you may have a faulty thermostat on the immersion heater, the best thing to do is call in an expert.

The Emerson heater wouldn’t go up to 80 Only needs to be 65 at max I would turn it right back and see what happens, check temp of the water if you can, if it’s still to hot replace stat

Hi Pete, The immersion stat is normally numbered 1 to 5, each number or slot represent the temperature in 10c increments. So 1 would be 30c, 2 would be 40c, 3 would be 50c, 4 would be 60c and 5 would be 70c. Also make sure only your off peak immersion is on over night, which is the bottom immersion and not have the top immersion on as well. Because having both the immersions on overnight will cause your hot water to be too hot. Only use the top immersion in the day no more then for one hour as a booster. But if your Megaflow isn't that old the heatup recovery time should be no more then 35 minutes. If you still find with turning your immersion stat down to number 3 or the third slot which is 50c your hot water too hot then that would indicate a faulty immersion stat.
