Laying pavers on concrete with 1 part slightly unlevel
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.32 PM
I was looking to lay paving down over my existing concrete however 1 part of the concrete is about 2cm off and rain water would usually gather here. Should i look at putting some self leveller down before i pave this area? Or would putting more sand / mortar in that location be fine? Thanks

Whenever a customer asks us to lay over existing concrete we always add the caveat, it could go wrong! Most paving needs a usable mortar bed of 30 mm min, added to the slab usually 22 mm these days your adding a minimum of 50 mm on top your concrete. Is the paving going up to the house? Do you have a damp proof course in your property. Standard practice is finished height 150 mm(or a couple of bricks and mortar) below DPC, rain bounce an all! Easy to lay over concrete but it might not have finished moving and you'll never see what's below. In our view best practice for paving around the house is to start again, remove concrete, check hardcore(doesn't always need replacing, just a bit adding and compacting again. Better aired patio, better levels for the house. all that being said if it's away from the property then just use enough bed blow the slab to get the fall and level required.

When you lay down slabs , lay them on a full bed of wet ciment and on that area is gonna be more ciment ,for example -if on the rest area is gonna be 3 cm of ciment under the slabs ,the area wich is uneven is gonna be 5 cm 👍
Another key: install the slabs with a slope towards where you have a drainage or etc. and the water won't stand on the tiles
Good luck 👍

2cm of self levelling compound could possibly crack
Better to build up difference with bedding sand/cement
