Chimney & Fireplace

From the second floor upwards my chimney has been removed even from the roof, is it legal??

Anonymous user 13/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I had some builders do some work on my house and they suggested removing the chimney would be better and give more room. I said we'd think about it but when we got there the next day it was completely removed. I have since then not carried on using that builder and have a new one which seems to know more about whats legal and not and he's telling it would need planing permission for the chimney to have been completely removed. It seems the other builder left me in the S***. Can anyone suggest what I can do from here?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You do not require planning to remove a chimney ,structural calcs and building control are needed ,also if you are a semi detached sharing the chimney with a neighbour then party wall agreements and their permission is required to remove the whole stack ,pay cheap pay twice ,big communication problem with the first builder if he thought no meant yes lol
