Plastering & Rendering

Can see tape lines really obvious

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

I had a new plasterboard wall put up on top of existing wall - wanted ectoderm boards and the existing plasterboard was in a dodgy state. I'm not sure but I think the guy used the mesh tape in the centre and paper tape in the corners. Filler was dry and was smooth and was left for a couple days before painting. We used a mist coat and 2 coats of Dulux easy care on top. Very visible tape lines this morning. To add - its not just a line its the whole width of the plaster taper if that makes sense Can this be rectified please and did our guy go about this the wrong way? Hi All maybe I wasn't clear or my understanding of the process is wrong. New plasterboard and he skimmed the joints only. He has put up new plasterboard and only skimmed the joints in other rooms and not skimmed the whole wall - tape not showing through. Should he reskim the whole wall?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sounds like the plasterer you used only gave it one coat of plaster. Only options are to re-skim the whole wall or use a filler

The problem is you’ve got two types of plasterboard and unfortunately by the sounds of it whoever plastered it for you should’ve gone over the tapes first then should have plaster The whole Area by the sounds of it he was a little bit light on the plaster that’s why you didn’t get the coverage

It sounds like he’s dry lined your walls not skimmed which is just the joints coated and slurry the whole wall next day. However the walls that’s showing the scrim or tapes sounds like it’s not bevelled edges which should be for dry lining so would need skimming to solve this hope this helps.

Obviously I can't see the finished walls but if they didn't skim it you would still be able to see the plaster board think back could you see the plaster board when you painted it if so you will need to get the whole wall skimed.
