Rendering or cladding?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

Hi. If you were looking to re-render your house because the current (historical) coating is starting to lift and crack, would you go for total re-rendering or insulation cladding? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Personally I would go with hack off existing render and re render. If the premises is listed that would be the way due to regulations and building inspections. Hope this helps

I would recommend to remove the existing render and re render. This way you are ok with the regulations in place, plus it will be more cost efficient.

What you would have to do is knock of the old render and re render it in either sand and cement or use k rend and pick a colour as it comes in different colours however k rend isn’t cheap but it’s well worth spending the extra as it looks so nice when it’s done and you don’t have to keep on top of painting it every year or so as you would do with sand cement render

While removing existing render was once the only way to go, the modern method involves cladding the house in insulation and rendering with specialised render such as k rend! Any unstable render would be removed first but only in extreme cases would there be any need to remove large areas with the resulting dust and possible damage that might occur! Of course you can have a combination of renderboard and render to the building! Shaun
