How to under the nut holding the kitchen tap

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi I’m trying to change the pull down kitchen tap. And came to a stop because I’m not sure how to under the nut that holds the kitchen tap in place. The is not a lot of space under the sink and the thread (not sure what it’s called) that the bolt is stuck on also has a black cord with weight attached to it. I am not able to get a tubular spanner through the cord to turn the bolt. Neither is there enough space to use an adjustable spanner. The bolt is also to small for a basin wrench. Any help you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Use a mono bloc box spanner, you can get a set from tool station for about £8. It's difficult sometimes, trying to feel rather than see.

Hi, you can try if you are changing the tap out by first of all cutting the black connecting hose with the weight on it. Second if there is not enough space see if the side panel separating the sink has a gap on the top were you can slip an adjustable spanner through it to release the nut holding the attachment hose which holds the pull down tap which should then allow you room to get a box spanner onto the tap nut. Failing that use a grinder to cut the tap off. No experience with a grinder, don't try it

If the tap is being taken out anyway, and a new one installed, just cut the cord. The new tap should have all fitments to attach a new weight, if required.
