Wiring in a new induction hob - running new cable through hallway

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Heya, We are looking to replace our gas hob with a new induction hob, and need to install new cabling from our electricity box in our hallway to our kitchen (probably about 4 meters away). We are planning on changing the hallway and kitchen flooring anyway, and was wondering is it possible to have the cabling go under the floorboards? Is it possible to have it running along the corner of the new floor and skirting board. We'd like it to be hidden as much as possible. Also we are aware that ripping up the skirting board may prove costly if done incorrectly! I just wondered what may be the best way around this. Apologies if a silly question, I have absolutely ZERO experience with anything like this. Thanks all! Jordan.

The best way is under the floorboards and NOT along the corner and skirting board. Any decent electrician will be able to lift the necessary floor boards with minimal damage. If there is a clear route under, you may only need to lift 2 small sections. Leave it to the electrician as regard to the correct cable size, usually 10mm, and the relevant cirtification that you need for a new circuit.

The best way to install any new circuit, is underneath the flooring(alongside all the other power circuits in the house);there is normally a ‘hatch’ near the consumer unit, and depending on the depth underneath,an electrician will be able to tell you if he can do the installation without lifting any more flooring etc. Hope this helps! ☺️Always use a qualified person for each trade you need! ☺️
