Fencing

Fencing to the right and what we can do.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

I have recently moved into a new build home. My partner and myself have taken the time to pull down the fences to our left and back of the garden to add gravel boards and treat/ paint the panels. My query is with the final fence to our right that's runs between us and a neighbour. If we take these panels down and add gravel boards then put the panels back up treated can our neighbour stop us? If say the fence does come down in years to come as looks like the builders have not put support post into ground correctly can this come back on us later or are we best leaving with bo gravel board?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I’m sure if you talk to your neighbour show them what you already done to your fences and tell them your concerns with the shared fence they won’t have a problem with it especially if you front the cost and time to do a better job. Regards Frankie BT Roofing Services

With boundary fences, one side of the property will be your responsibility and the other will be your neighbors, however, I'm sure having a friendly conversation with them and explaining, what you hope to carry out, will ease and fears they may have. All the best Jack Thorne

In most new builds your responsibility is normally the left hand side but am sure if you talk and explain to your neighbour what your doing and why! Then they should be fine with it .

It shouldn’t be a problem but confront your neighbours first if it is there fence It’s always better to make sure first

Yes I agree with all above . Just speak to your neighbours explaining what you are doing and why , I'm sure they will be more than happy for you to continue. As for the future, if the posts are dug in deep enough (0.60) and secured with 2 bags of post crete each , there in no reason the fence won't last its expected life time. 😉
