Best way to hide laminate expansion gap near stairs

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

I’ve removed all skirts and laminated two rooms and hallway with no door profiles, straight through transitions and 12mm gap around all ends. Issue is as I approach the stairs in hallway, I want to cover the expansion gap but do not want to use scotia. I went to a lot of trouble to avoid all that. I’m wondering, is it possible to lift the carpet slightly, run my laminate close to bottom of last step, leaving 10-12mm for expansion and then use an adhesive spray to stick the carpet to the end of the laminate? *** UPDATE *** I left a decent gap all around the perimeter and butted up close to the carpet. Since I have thick carpet, it was well hidden and still had a decent 8mm expansion gap which couldn't be seen. Overall, best solution... my floor is complete with no scotia/beading anywhere at all :) Thank you to everyone that replied to this question!!

Unfortunately you need some way of holding the lam down to the floor at the walls etc

you will need to pull the carpet up a bit, lay the laminate under the carpet, and make sure it is in line with the carpet gripper. Since carpet gripper thickness is 11mm, it will serve as the expansion gap for the laminate. Make sure the laminate is cut straight all around the stair and then tap the carpet in which will cover the gap.

In my own home I’ve not left an expansion gap only a few millimetres and used sealant to cover gaps I have found only real wood or bamboo floors are most likely to expand the most . If there’s a gap everywhere else on the perimeter I would be happy with scribing it In close to stairs personally
