Fixing gym equipment to Thermalite Blocks
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.56 PM
Hi, I’ve got an outhouse made from Thermalite blocks and need to install a gym ladder to the wall. It weights about 60kgs and comes with 9 very long screws and plugs but worried that the block won’t be able to take the load of someone hanging on the ladder or jumping on and off it. Do you think the screws supplied will hold or is the block likely to blow or I’ve seen Thermalite block fixings Are recommended by can’t find any long enough. I’m prepared to take the risk but don’t really want to find the wife under the Gym ladder one evening!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You could drill right through the blocks, use threaded studs to go through a metal plate with holes Drilled in the correct place, on the outside. Then tighten a nut on both ends of the stud.

Masonry drill holes out to 12mm
Depth to around 90mm A’s block is 100mm.
Cut lengths of 12 mm threaded bar being shore to cut as straight as possible to allow the nut to fit remove any burrs.
Thoroughly hoover out the holes so no dust is left.
Squeeze epoxy resin into holes one at a time this gear goes off quick so don’t mess around once hard in the nozzle that’s that one done.
Insert threaded bar once in spin with your fingers to allow resin to move fully around threads, try to keep the bars as level as possible and to the same lengths this will make it easier to align anything you want to fix to them I e metal plates/flanges etc.
Once fully hardened push plate/flanges over the threaded bar use 12mm washers and nuts and tighten.
If the bar is too long angle grind off access clean off burrs job done 👍
