Noisy extraction fan when the wind blows
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.10 PM
Hi, We have an en-suite bathroom with an extractor fan (Xpelair) that comes on when the light switches on. Unfortunately, when it is windy it rattles somewhere. Originally, I thought it was the vent hood so replaced that but it seems to be coming from just behind the part that rotates when the light switches on. Any ideas on how this can be fixed or suggest an extractor fan that just does not rattle as it is quite irritating. Thanks

You should check the outside of the box. It is possible that you only have a grille without closing and during a faithful day the air causes noise. You can replace the grille with the closing

If is horizontally fitted and has drought flaps, that is the thing rattling behind the fan motor.
Re position the flaps vertically and check the spring which keeps it closed

Hi you have to check the back of the fan there you will see two plastic Like half moon pieces and is possible one of them to be out of the their original place or if your hole for the extractor fan is not with perfect size and is done without the proper tool

Your external vent is open to the wind and is probably just a grill type. This needs replacement with one that has closing flaps that only open when the fan is on. You can get them at the big diy stores. But if it’s high up maybe get a pro to fit it
