Remove wired alarm sensors and box but keep external box

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.10 PM

Hello! This is a bit of a weird one. We bought a house some years back with a really old house alarm - definitely more than 10 years old (we've been here 7 years - it's a Melcom ST6000) I'm upgrading to a wireless system but I'd like to keep the outside flashing box as a deterrant. Is it possible to remove the keypad box and sensors but keep the outside alarm box flashing? Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It’s very unlikely but you would need to contact an alarm engineer to confirm

Most decent wifi systems come with an outside box. Each unit has it's own battery so there is no need to keep the old box. You just have to change the batteries yearly. The top systems have a function where you can switch off the light indicator on the internal sensors to extend battery life.

You can get dummy bell boxes with flashing LED's from well known retailers named after a river Why keep an old tacky bell box when you can have a modern one? You can also get wired bell boxes for wireless alarms (then the lights will flash and it will look like and BE a deterrent) Contact your installer.
