The neighbours gravel board height is too low against our land level on our side... help?

Anonymous user 19 May 2020 - 1.27 PM

Hi, so our land level is slightly higher than our neighbours land level and their wooden fence panels sit against part of our land rather than the gravel boards sitting against our land. If we had a new driveway / parking area resurfaced it would butt up to the wooden panel instead of the gravel board. It basically just needs another gravel board inserting into five of the panels of their drive and then it would be right. Obviously the fence would be a bit higher as a result but would actually bring it in line with the rest of their fence as some of it slopes down from their garden leading towards the driveway anyway. Therefore this wouldn’t actually look out of place AND it’s the side of the house and wouldn’t affect daylight / sunlight because of the side of the house this is on. Is this a poor job done by who did their fence? They would have seen our ground level when putting the fence in place. I hope this make sense! If only I could add a photo! We don’t want to make their fence rotten by going up to the boundary. It just seems so odd that they weren’t advised to use two gravel boards and a shorter wood panel? I’m happy to pay to put it right but want advice on what to do before speaking to them. Their fence was done before we moved in and I don’t want to cause any problems - I just want advice on how to go to our border without wrecking their fence

As a good neighbour if you wish to have a said driveway etc for the sake of a few quid you could pay this to be done, orrr a good company like mine would put a concrete edging to the height needed tight to the boundary and tarmac to that. Hope this helps, if you need a quote please give us a call

If you were to have your driveway done the neighbours fence should not be a problem as you could have edging installed up to the fence boundary and tarmac up to it. Does this help? Contact us if you require a quote

If the garden is higher and the neighbours is lower the concrete gravel boards also act as retainer enforcement for the higher ground with should have a loading capacity to retain the higher level ground- ie bespoke bigger diameter re-bar in the concrete boards and retaining concrete posts.Maybe a surveyors report depending how long the slope or drop is.

Fitting another gravel board would look out of place . If the fence is fitted correctly panels should be level to top of posts adding another board would leave the panels proud of the posts allowing the panels to twist. The only way I can see to fit another gravel board you would have to use a shorter panel. Add a foot reduce the panel by a foot expense.

Bit of an awkward one to be honest as when Fenicng was installed they would of used customers ground level to achieve 6ft but they should of checked if there was a height diff next door namely you and brought it to the customers attention that next door will loose there privacy and the paying customer. Prob is the legal height without permission is 6ft unless backing on to public path ally ways or business premises but if the neighbour it encroaches on is happy there isn’t an issue seems like a communication break down. Next prob will be is unless there is plenty of slot space left to take a gravel board and panel not pop out of the slot at the top and I suspect there won’t be will look very unattractive as posts will now be 2 short. can get post caps but won’t look as good still. Other option is add 6ft trellis your side but again I’d have a friendly chat with neighbours. Regards Andy rose&english
