repair of damp course
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM
A builder has drilled out crumbling brick around my damp course and filled it in with cement but has covered over the damp course so it's no longer visible at that point. Is this correct procedure?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This isn’t the right procedure. Do you have any photos of the work at all?

Hello, if the damp course has been covered, then you will Have what’s called bridging, were essentially damp can travel over the Damp proof course, whatever that may be , slate damp, bituminous damp, modern plastic damp membrane, or chemical treatments

Hi Joyce
Its dificult to tell with out a photo
However if the damp course was visible,I assume the property is around maximum 40 year old,in that case if the damp course hasn't been removed or damaged it will be fine
On the other had if the damp course has been injected into the wall aslong as the brick removed was above the injection course that be ok as well
If it's below d.p.c I would advise to get it injected around that area
Hope that help
