16 amp fuse for dual fuel cooker

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hi, I’m looking to get a dual fuel cooker but it says that they require a 16 amp fuse, I currently don’t have an isolated fuse for the cooker as it is gas and just plugged into the mains. My main fuse box reads 80A 30mA RCD. Is this a big job?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will need to get an electrician to come and have a look. They will be able to advise you. You will need a dedicated cable from your fuse board to the cooker position. How difficult it is to run has a direct impact on the cost.

If there's no dedicated cooker circuit then you'll need one installed to the point of use. Typically this would be a 6 or 10mm cable run from its own fuse in the consumer unit to a cooker isolation switch and then from that to a cooker outlet somewhere behind or close to where the oven/cooker will be. If you lucky the cable can be run in conduit under the kitchen units and through adjacent cupboards or rooms. If you want the cable buried in the wall then this of course is extra. You'll need separate quotes from a decorator possibly to make good. You electrician should fill and chases afterwoods with plaster or mortar and also give you a certificate for any work done. Hope that helps.

Hi, if your Manufactures’ instructions says a “16 amp fuse” then this needs to be hard-wired back to the Consumer Unit, via a double-pole switch. You will certainly need to employ a suitably qualified & registered electrician as this is notifiable works to LABC as per Part P Building Regulations. Hope this helps! Thanks Steve S.C. If your cooker manufacturer States a16 amp supply this is fairly low and could come from a number of places. The fuse you refer to is not relevant. What you need to do is place an add on my builder and find yourself a good electrican who can advise you.
