Damp Proofing

Do I need neighbour's consent for damp proofing on a party wall?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

The full ground floor of my house needs a new damp proof course. I'm confused whether I need to get my permission from my neighbours to go ahead? Its a 1920s mid terrace house

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It would be appropriate to serve your neighbour with a party wall notice, either written by yourself ( there’s are standard templates on the web) or you can commission a party wall surveyor to serve notice and the neighbour would have two weeks to respond and give assent in writing

You have a duty of care to let your neighbours know but they cannot refuse you permission. You do not need to commission a party wall surveyor, that would be a waste of your money. A note through the letterbox is just fine.

Hi best practice is to serve a party wall notice this let's the neighbour know your intentions and has a period of time, think about 2 weeks to respond

Hi, I would be more concerned about why you need a DPC on an internal wall. Also it would be best to give your neighbour a party wall notice.

Personally I Would seek advise from a Damp specialist- they will know all the regs and will point you in the right direction - also they will be fully insured Gareth
