Position of toilet waste hole on floor

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hi I’ve asked this question before and was told I had given a poor job description. I’ve had a close coupled toilet installed in a new shower room with a concrete floor. The hole in the floor for the waste is hard against the wall behind the toilet pan. I noticed blue staining on the floor around the toilet from cistern cleansing tablets and assumed there was something wrong with the seal because of the position of the hole in the floor. The installer came back and could find nothing wrong and I haven’t noticed a leak since. I’ve had different advice about the position of the hole for the waste - some have told me it’s as it should be and others say it should not be so close to the wall. Should I employ someone to fix this now in case it causes a problem down the line or is it ok? I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The leaking from the cistern would not necessary be a result of your waste outlet being too close to the wall. More likely a poor seal on the cistern to pan. Bringing the waste outlet further away is surely only going to mean your cistern will need spacing from the wall also. A picture would be useful to ascertain if waste is causing figment issues.

If it's not broken don't fix it. Sounds like it was installed without thought given to the finished wall depth, maybe they didn't allow for plasterboard and tiles etc. But as long as you can push a pan connector inside it, and the toilet is fitted and working as it should then I don't see a problem.

I've come across this problem a few times, if you are saying the waste is too far from the pan then I would use a flexible pan connector. If the waste is too close to the pan and cistern is stretched to screw to wall I would pack out with wood or have a joiner build a bulkhead behind cistern and finish with selfie board or tiling.

I'm assuming the blue tablet was put in the cistern, therefore it's the doughnut between the pan and cistern incorrectly situated.
